John
Adams HS eased their way past Dewitt Clinton HS in their first
semi-final on May 27, 2008.
In a game that was affected rain, John Adams HS was declared
the winner because they were ahead on the run-rate when the
game was called.
While Newcomers HS advanced to the final with a thrilling
and exciting win over Richmond Hill HS in the second semi-final
on May 29, 2008.
Richmond Hill HS batted first and scored 117 for 7 wickets
in their allotted 20 overs.
Newcomers HS reached their target of 118 for the loss of 5
wickets in 19.2 overs after being 29 for 4 at one stage.
Newcomers HS and John Adams HS split their two regular season

In
their second meeting on April 30, 2008, John Adams HS edged
Newcomers HS by 3 runs (85 to 82). Interesting to note that
Newcomers Captain, Dominic Gomes, took a hat-trick in this
match, however it was John Adams Captain, Thakur Singh, who
single handedly won the match for John Adams. Thakur top scored
with 26 runs and took all three (3) of his wickets in one
over. He clean bowled Robin Das and Dominic Gomes with consecutive
deliveries.
This brings us to the Inaugural Championship match this Sunday,
June 1, 2008 – and what a match this will be? Newcomers
HS only two losses in the regular season were against Richmond
Hill HS and John Adams HS.
Many felt that the semi-final between Richmond Hill HS and
Newcomers HS is a good as it gets, however students of John
Adams HS said they are prepared and ready for the challenge
on Sunday.
The game starts at 12:00noon sharp and will be played at the
picturesque Gateway Park ( Erskine Street), Brooklyn, New
York.
Players to watch: John Adams High School
Thakur Singh – Thakur is the captain
of John Adams HS. He is a gifted all-rounder that can bat,
bowl and field very well. Thakur single handedly defeated
Newcomers the last time these two teams met.
Randy Nurse – they call him mister
reliable. Randy is John Adams’ most consistent batsman
this season. Randy comes “not out” almost every
match he has played in. Who would have thought that a kid
from a little village named Airy Hall, Mahaicony ECD, Guyana,
South America -- would top the batting average in the North
East League?
Players to watch: Newcomers High School
Robin Das – Robin, without a doubt,
is the best batsman in the PSAL Cricket program and a very
smart cricketer. Robin times the ball exceptionally well and
had some big innings for Newcomers this season. He was the
key to the Newcomers HS victory over Richmond Hill HS in their
semi-final May 29, 2008. Robin batted sensibly and top scored
with 44 not out.
Azmain Hossain – Azmain scored the
only century this season - 102 vs. Stuyvesant HS. Like, Robin
Das, he times the ball very well and is a very useful bowler.
He shared a matching winning partnership of eighty-two (82)
runs, for the fifth wicket with Robin Das, to defeat Richmond
Hill HS in their semi-final – scoring 34 runs.
Dominic Gomes – Dominic is the Captain
of Newcomers HS. He took the only hat-trick this season. He
generates good pace as an opening bowler and has very good
control. Dominic is also a very useful batsman.
