Cosmos
Streak Ends West
Cosmos suffered
their first lost of the season to the MCL round robin defending champions
Westbury last Sunday in a “rain-shortened” match at Floyd
Bennett field.
The match was reduced to 25 overs remains a mystery under the conditions,
however, that did not prevent opening batsman Dennis Evans from producing
a brilliant inning of 80 not out after Cosmos won the toss and decided
to take first strike. Orlando Baker 24, and Livingston Puckering 26
provided good support for Evans to launched into the Westbury’s
attack. Cosmos inning closed on a respectable 163 for 4. Westbury’s
new recruit, West Indies pacer Hendy Bryan took 3 for 30 off his five
overs.
Cosmos could ill afford vital chances in this contest, flouring N.
Sandford first ball lobbed return catch on zero and then again on
thirty, he went on to score a crucial 61. Only Sham Ali, 2 for 23
off his five overs manage to restrain the attacking mood of the Westbury’s
batsmen removing Kevin Baugh and Paul Salmon early in the inning.
Barrington Bartley took full advantage of another missed chance by
cosmos at mid-on with the score on 104 for 2 in the 15th over. He
went on to score a valuable 47 not out with Clif Roye on 26 not out
to secure a vital 7 wicket victory for Westbury in the 23rd over.
