A
Progressive Cosmos Encounter
The anticipation of an exciting finish between Cosmos and Progressive
disappeared once Cosmos captain Dixeth Palmer took his mark at the
crease and blazed his way to an exciting 79 to lead his team to a
most convincing victory at Floyd Benett Field last Sunday.
A fighting Progressive 173 for 6 off 40 overs centered around a good
opening partnership of 53 between K. George and K. Sylvester, but
once Sham Ali removed the aggressive Kester Sylvester for 33, the
pressure proved too much for the other batsmen. Cosmos bowled their
way into a good position reducing progressive to 143 for 5 in the
37th over and a last over slug yield 16 runs, only D. Bennett showed
some resistance for a well played 55. Vinord, David and Dennis were
on target picking up a wicket each in their eight overs.
Cosmos began their inning cautiously loosing two quick wickets for
19. Dennis Evans and Dixeth Palmer took the attack to the opposition,
which yield a match winning partnership of 133. Palmer stroked eight
fours and four sixes for his 79 and Evans remained unbeaten on 68
with Livingston Puckering on 10 when cosmos inning closed on 174 for
3 in the 28th over. Cosmos managers Lloyd Scott and Shadi Khan expressed
their admiration, that winning becomes secondary when compared to
the high level of sportsmanship displayed by two teams.
