Heat Is On” Is Undefeated In Its Fourth Straight Game

Newly formed “The Heat Is On” once more emerged victorious
in its fourth game by defeating “Ravens” in a hard fought
game at Basley Park on Rockaway last Sunday. Previously, they defeated
Buccaneers, Cricket International and Falcons respectively. Captain
Ravi Lall won the toss and after consultation with the players, decided
to take the field. One would think that it was a poor decision for
there was blazing sunshine and the weather was very humid which made
Ravens very jubilant. In the first two overs, Ravens lost its opening
pair with just 5 runs on the board and it seemed that “The Heat
Is On” would be on a roll. Alas, this was not to be.
Sonna Harichand and Rocky Bansi resisted all the attack of its opposition
and put on a tremendous partnership of 68 runs until captain Ravi
Lall bowled Sonna after compiling 27 runs. Rocky Bansi continued to
showed tremendous resilience and was finally defeated by young Romeo
Constantine who got him caught after amassing 81 valuable runs. Ravens
stayed the course and completed the allotted 30 overs by amassing
189 runs with the fall of 9 wickets. The pick of the bowlers were
Ravi Lall with 2 for 21 runs and Dereck Sanichara with also 2 wickets
for 23 runs. Strong support was also given by V. Dhaniram (Rishie)
with 2 for 37, Dhaneshwar Dhaniram (Danny) with 2 for 34 and Romeo
Constantine with 1 for 23 runs.
After being battered
by the sun and humid condition, “The Heat Is On” faced
an uphill task, but proved that they were equal to the task. The opening
pair of Vijay Chandarpal (Manager) and Derek Sanichara (Vice Captain),
showed their mettle by facing the brunt of Ravens bowling attack until
Vijay Chandarpal was dismissed while making a rash shot during the
9th over after amassing 25 runs with the score on 46. Dhaneshwar Dhaniram
(Danny) then joined Derek who continued his polished stroke play to
compile 37 runs. Not to be outdone, Danny also compiled exactly 37
runs with some massive shots.
Newcomer, Martin Perry also joined in the fray and complied an accomplished
32 runs. At the close of play, Captain Ravi Lall and Romeo Constantine
remained undefeated on 20 and 5 respectively. This is the second time
that Ravi has been undefeated in four innings. Romeo, who is new to
cricket, showed that he would be a force to be reckoned with in the
future, for his bowling shows class and in the three innings that
he participated, he could not have been defeated. V. Dhaniram (Rishie)
was also among the runs with a quick fire 15 runs before being bowled
while attempting to pull to square-leg. “The Heat Is On”
showed that they are here to stay for they defeated Ravens within
26 overs with the fall of only 5 wickets in compiling the required
190 runs.
Manager, Vijay
Chandarpal and Captain Ravi Lall congratulated their teammates on
their resounding victory and challenged them to continue to apply
themselves in the future games of “New York Softball Cricket
League” 30 overs Cup competition sponsored by “The Novelty
Financial Group”.
