As Gonsalves And Sharma Slams Hundreds

The New York Softball Cricket League 25 over Championship sponsored by P K Realty & Mortgage Company is turning into a runs galore. If the bowlers are still cold from the weather and has become conducive to the batsmen who have siege this opportunity to build mammoth total in all the divisions. After four weeks of cricket and 6 centuries so far it looked as if we are heading for a record year in runs. Last Sunday in division IA Andrew Gonsalves scored an even century for Assassins versus Cavaliers.

In the division IB game Wildfire, N. Sharma scored 108 not out against Williamsburg, and H. Sackichand blasted 106 in the same game. The bowlers had their share of glory too in the division IB game Long Beach versus Enterprise; K. Roopnarine bowled a superb spell to grabbed 6 for 15 for Long Beach in a losing effort.

After 4 weeks many teams have placed themselves into playoff position already. In division IA four teams are playing undefeated so far, Country Boys, East Coast, Braveheart and United Star. In division IB there are three undefeated teams, Titans, Wildfire and Nationals. Over in the other two divisions New York All-Star and Lightening has won all their games in division IIA while in division IIB, Triumph is the only undefeated team.

Young Brothers Crushed Strikers

At Whitestone Park under dark sky and light drizzle Young Brothers defeated Strikers by 8 wickets and 3 overs to spare. Strikers won the toss and batted first and after their allotted 25 overs the score was 145 for 7 wickets. With N. Budhram 23. M. Latcha 17 and P. Singh 16 being the main scorers. Bowling for Young Brothers N. Dwaraka grabbed 2-19, R. Sookram 2-31 while P. Mohan and T. Dhanraj took 1 wicket each.

In reply Young Brothers were off to a bad start losing the wickets of N. Dwaraka (6) and V. Gupta (0) in the space of 3 balls. And after 2 overs the score was 7 for 2, with this bringing the captain T. Dhanraj and the dependable N Tiwari together. This pair batted well in an unbeaten third wicket partnership of 141 runs. T. Dhanraj batted patiently for a solid 52 not out while N. Tiwari blasted a blazing knock off 75 not out and saw their Brothers home without losing another wicket.

Bowling for Strikers K. Ibrahim was the only successful bowler with 2 for 19 in his spell of 5 overs.
