A Night of Stars, Sounds and Sonic Booms
East Bank Honors its Cricketing Stars

By John L. Aaron

March 5th, 2008
East Bank Cricket Club last month honored its 2007 cricketing stars, at a well-attended Awards Dinner and Dance held at the Rigatti Terrace on Rockaway Boulevard in Queens. Despite a constant chill outside, the warmth inside captured the 2007 season of the Guyanese New York cricket club.

After an exciting season that saw the club finish among the top teams in the Eastern American Cricket Association, the relatively new club took time out to pay tribute to those contributing to its success, with the presentation of several trophies in all of the cricketing categories, with the MVP going to long-time Guyana wicketkeeper batsman Debo Sankar.

The well-attended event was a joint presentation with New York softball team Cornered Tigers. With lots of glittering trophies, ladies in glitter and glamour, gents in grand garb and gabbing, giggling children and gushing guests, the night rocked with great music, good food and fine spirits, all around.

The pulsating rhythms of the live band and DJ was only the the precursor to an evening flled with excitement. A young heart racing Tasso duo from Kings Jewelry World created an infusion of classic tasso beats, as the backdrop to the instant ladies only dance contests and the award of valuable prizes to those willing to drop all inhibitions, while being infected by the rhythmic renditions and crowd encouragement.

At night’s end the excitement and sweat only matched that which the East Bank players had exhibited on the field during the past year.
