The USA Cricket Association’s senior men’s team arrived
in the United Arab Emirates earlier today ready to do battle against
Ireland, Scotland and Afghanistan in the Group A fixture of the
2010 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier Tournament.

Team USA at
JFK Airport before departing for Dubai to participate in the
ICC 2010 World Twenty20 Qualifier Tournament. |
Led by Steve
Massiah, one of the USA’s most prolific batsmen, the squad
will be coached by former Guyana and West Indies batsman Clayton
Lambert and managed by Imran Khan Suddahazai. New Zealand’s
Dipak Patel is expected to join the USA team in the UAE, as part
of the coaching consultant staff.
Team USA includes the hard-hitting Carl Wright and Sudesh Dhaniram,
both of whom relish the shorter form of the game, and the experienced
Twenty20 journeyman Lennox Cush, among the other talented players,
all of whom are expected to give good accounts of themselves.
The USA is currently ranked at the bottom of the
eight competing teams, but smart money suggests that that ranking
will change at the conclusion of the tournament, as the USA seeks
to qualify for the ICC 2010 World Twenty20, later this year in the
West Indies.
The full squad is Timroy Allen, Imran Awan, Orlando
Baker, Lennox Cush, Kevin Darlington, Sudesh Dhaniram, Glenmore
Hall, Rashard Marshall, Steve Massiah, Sushil Nadkarni, Usman Shuja,
Aditya Thyagarajan, Saurabh Verma, and Carl Wright.
The USA’s
first match is against the number three ranked Scotland on Tuesday,
February 9 at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Stadium, followed by Ireland
seeded number one the next day, and the number six ranked Afghanistan
on Thursday, February 11. The Group B teams include the Netherlands
(2), Kenya (4), Canada (5), and hosts UAE ranked at number seven.

I wish our boys the best of luck. USA cricket is on the threshold
of turning a new era. With the help we are now getting from New
Zealand, and the hard work of Don Lockerbie. All we need to do now
is to work towards the goal of uplifting the standard of cricket
in this country. let us put aside our selfishness and needs to hold
on to power. The game is greater than any one of us.
