Celebrates Winning Season
Mayor's Cup - Inter-League Championship - League Tournaments
First-ever EACA web site launched at www.eacany.org
Saturday, November
3rd saw our league acknowledging the individual performances of those
players who excelled during the just completed season. In addition,
several other individuals were presented with acknowledgement plaques,
for their contributions to the EACA and cricket in the New York area.
Among those being
acknowledged were umpires Steve Kalloo and Danny Pooran, play-by-play
broadcasters Lenny Achibar and Carl Bennett, web site developer Sheik
“Tani” Mohammed, 40-Overs sponsor Shamin Ali of Laparkan,
New York Under-19 national Championship coach Linden Fraser and Brooklyn
Parks Commissioner Julius Spiegel.
The jam-packed
Naresa Palace on Rockaway Boulevard was hopping with excitement as
the players strode to the stage to be publicly acknowledged for outstanding
performances during the 2007 season.
Master-of-Ceremonies
for the evening and EACA president John Aaron, in thanking the sponsors,
including Laparkan, Ed Ahmad, Insaf “Birdman” Ali and
others, remarked that in a year when the EACA had done exceptionally
well in local cricket competitions, it was the hardest to raise much
needed operational funds.
He noted with
glee, while profusely thanking Sheik Mohammed, this site’s builder,
that the EACA now has an official web site, which he hoped would serve
as a good tool for keeping clubs and players in the loop, with regards
to tournament schedules, scores, individual performances, etc.,
President Aaron
went on to thank the other members of the Executive Committee, Krish
Prasad, Sew Shivnarine and the players for a remarkable season, and
wished everyone the very best for 2008.
Our league, this
year added another performance category – Most Economical Bowler,
acknowledging those crafty bowlers who avoid, as much as possible,
being scored upon.
