The New York Regional Under-19 team left for Florida on Thursday to
participate in the national Under-19 championships.

Having earned
the right to represent the region, the team flew out on Thursday morning
accompanied by manager Lester Hooper, brother of former Guyana and
West Indies Test captain Carl Hooper, along with coach Linden Fraser
and team statistician J.P. Singh.
The team’s participation in the national tournament is funded
by several New York individuals and businesses, through donations
of apparel for both on and off the field of play, as well as dinner
sponsorships for each of the four nights the team is expected to be
in Florida.
Ahmad Group
of Companies CEO Ed Ahmad chipped in with a donation of cricket-playing
shirts Wednesday evening. In accompanying picture, Ed Ahmad (right)
is seen handing over one of the shirts to the team’s statistician
J.P. Singh, while John Ragano of Ragano & Ragano, Attorneys-at-Law
(left), approvingly assists.
John Ragano was the sponsor of this year’s Tri-State Under-19
championship final, won ironically by a team named Tri-State Youths.
Many of the players who represented the Tri-State Youths were selected
to represent the New York Region in the national finals, scheduled
for this weekend at the Brian Piccolo Park in Florida.
