Everest/ACS Captures EACA Big-4 Title

By John L. Aaron

Everest/ACS Cricket Club led by the indomitable Zamin Amin captured the 2007 Eastern American Cricket Association’s 2007 Big-4 crown today at Baisley Pond Park in Queens, NY, defeating Enmore Cricket Club by seven wickets.

Winning the toss and inviting Enmore to take first strike was probably the right decision, as Enmore was in immediate trouble losing its first three wickets for 19 runs. However, the vociferous Syed Mohammed let his bat do the talking for the next 50 runs (2x6s, 4x4s), as the explosive batsman sought to prop up Enmore’s middle.

Mohammed, 50, bowled by T. Hastoo, would be only one of two batsmen able to reach double digits, the other being G. Rabilall with 11, as the other Enmore batsmen made a constant trek to the middle, only to return shortly afterwards to the stands. Enmore reached 121 all out in 30.2 of the 40 overs allocated them.

Everest/ACS’ skipper Amin captured 4 for 21 off 7.2 overs and the Best Bowling Award. Syed Amin had figures of 8-2-31-3; Karran Ganesh 3-2-10-2 and Terry Hastoo had 1 for 23 off 4 overs.

Everest/ACS in reply reached 123 and the victory in 24.3 overs, losing only three wickets along the way. Everest/ACS enjoyed an opening stand of 32, before losing the wicket of Sase Singh for 15 off 26 deliveries. H. Amin contributed a patient 28 off 47 balls in the role of opening partner. Neil Solomon entered the fray, but never looked quite comfortable as he groped to establish himself. He was soon departing via lbw to R. Seebarran for a deuce.

With Enmore/ACS at 84 for three, the young Karran Ganesh, former Under-15 skipper of Guyana was joined by his skipper and mentor Zamin Amin, and together the two brought home the prize. Ganesh’s contribution 27 n.o. (1x6, 3x4), while Zamin Amin etched 31 n.o. (2x6s, 2x4) into the scorebook to record his team’s first 2007 title. R. Seebarran was the only Enmore batsman to capture any wickets 6-0-29-3.

Zamin Amin was declared the MVP, having captured four wickets, scored 31 runs and leading his team to victory. He also walked off with the Best Bowling Award. The Highest Individual Score Award went to Syed Mohammed for his top score of 50 in the losing cause for Enmore. (Gallery)
