Krish Prasad Headed For Cricket Hall Of Fame

A significant contributor to the growth and development of cricket in the New York metropolitan area, Krish Prasad, will be inducted into the Cricket Hall of Fame next weekend. A well-known and respected cricket player, enthusiast, supporter and organizer, Kuldeap Krish Prasad, along with long-standing player and well-respected New York cricket umpire Hammy Reid, are both deserving 2007 candidates for induction into the Hall of Fame, located in Connecticut.

Krish Prasad is currently the chairman of the Ed Ahmad New York Caribbean Cricket Cup, and has been responsible for organizing and coordinating arguably, the premier cricket tournament in the United States of America, for the past four years. The Ed Ahmad New York Caribbean Cricket Cup involves representative teams from Barbados, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Pakistan, Trinidad & Tobago, Windward Islands, and recently a USA Development Team. Over the years, several current and former Test and national players from the participating countries have participated in the tournament. In keeping with the growing trend of Twenty20 cricket around the world, the tournament was recently changed to accommodate both the 50-overs and Twenty20 formats, with Guyana capturing both championship titles this year, defeating Trinidad & Tobago in the longer version of the game and Jamaica in the Twenty20 final.

Krish Prasad has served two stints as president of the Eastern American Cricket Association (EACA) from 1998-2001 and 2005-2006. The EACA is a member of New York Cricket Region. Prasad has been chairman of the New York Cricket Region from 2005, with responsibilities for both the senior and junior teams.

A member of the Board of Directors of the United States of America Cricket Association (USACA), from 1998 – 2000, Prasad has represented USACA at the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) cricket conference at Lords, England.

The Hall of Fame candidate has been a player and member of Everest Cricket Club of New York since 1973 and its president since 1980. He currently plays in the Cricket Masters Tournament in New York.

The Guyanese native migrated to New York in 1973 and attended Teterboro School of Aeronautics, where he obtained his A&P license, before graduating from the New York Institute of Technology with a B.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering. Married to Jessie “Dolly” Prasad, the couple has four children, Haresh 16, Tara 14, Kumar 13 and Dharana 9.

A religious cleric within the Guyanese community, Krish Prasad has been employed with American Airlines at the John F. Kennedy International Airport since1979. He is currently the supervisor of the Training and Engineering department.

The avid cricket enthusiast who donates a lot of his time and resources to the development of the game in the United States, acknowledges much of his success in the cricket arena, to his very close friendship with some other New Yorkers, notably former West Indies Test player Sew Shivnarain, real estate tycoon Ed Ahmad and John Ragano, an attorney-at-law.
