Cosmos Kings Fall In A Thriller

A last over thriller at Floyd Bennett last Saturday handed Cosmos Kings their first defeat against Commonwealth Tigers in the NYR U-19 Twenty/20 competition.

Tigers were backed into a corner by the Kings attack when they needed twelve runs off the last over to seal victory. However, last week’s hero, Atiq Baksh, became this week's villain as the Tigers batsmen pounce on two short deliveries and a full toss to escape with two balls to spare.

Kings had some gaping holes in their defense, which allowed the Tigers many too many opportunities to escape. Earlier, Kings recovered to a respectable total after at one stage they were 3 for 7. Dominic Gomes (32) and captain Arif (34) repaired the innings with a 50 wicket partnership before both fell in consecutive balls. Atiq Baksh (18) played an important knock in the end to give his team a fighting 121 for 8 off their 20 overs.

Tigers in reply found runs hard to come, but managed to keep inching closer to their target after Kings spilled eight catches. Tiger’s batsman Ali played the anchor role for a match-winning 56. The match was keenly contested between these two sides and the youths seem to be enjoying themselves.
