Cosmos
Defeatd Progressive
(Celebrating 26 Anniversary)- A dogged seventh wicket partnership
between Cosmos's captain Ricky Kissoon and Mahabir Moonesar combined
with hostile spell of fast bowling from paceman Martin Nurse and a
lethal combination of left arm spin attack from Kissoon, Moonesar,
and Anderson Sealy gave Cosmos a convincing win to placed them on
the number one position on the MCL points table. Cosmos has historically
coined a reputation for as being a team to come from behind and they
did it again. They moved from the fifth ranking to number one in as
many weeks with one more game to play.

It
was not an easy rise to the top; it took a fighting eighty-three runs
seventh wicket partnership between Kissoon and Moonesar to repair
the Cosmos inning. As a result to poor shot selection, Progressive
had Cosmos reeling at 86 for 6 in 16 overs with Nurse, Shah, Siloch,
Palmer, and Woolcock all back in the pavilion. Kissoon then played
a Captain's knock secured one end as he worked the ball around the
wicket for the important singles while Moonesar stroked his way to
an irrefutable half-century. Cosmos recovered well to 169 in the 37th
over and subsequently gave themselves a defendable total, before both
Kissoon (26) and Moonesar (52) was out in the 38th over. Cosmos closed
their inning on a fighting 195 for 9.
In reply, Progressive batsmen posted a solid opening partnership of
seventy-eight runs before Kissoon affected the vital breakthrough
when he removed both openers allowing paceman Nurse put a dent into
the Progressive top order with a hostile spell. He send back Richard
Staple without a sweat and then shattered the woodwork of R. Toussaint
and C. Doman in the next over and suddenly the opposition was in tatters
at 97 for 5. Only R. Ettiene (38) offered some resistance, however,
the spin combination of Moonesar, 2 for 31 and Sealy 3 for 23, proved
to be too much as they mesmerized the opposition’s lower order.
When Progressive inning ended on 158 all out, Cosmos would have placed
themselves in a commanding position at the top of the points table
to win their division and a sure spot in the playoffs. Cosmos will
play Lions next Sunday at Riis Park, Brooklyn.
