Mirza To Train At International Pro Camp In South Africa

Nov. 2nd, 2009
USACA Under 19 Second Eleven player Cameron Mirza, is to join an elite group of leading players at the International Pro Camp in Potchefstroom, South Africa at the end of November. The New York region player joins the 5-day camp, run by North West Cricket, which hosts 22 first-class and professional academy players from across South Africa and other countries.

At 16 years of age, Mirza is the youngest ever attendee of the camp - something that the organizers are very pleased about. ‘’We are excited about having young Cameron from the US and look forward to receiving a renowned and potentially great player in South Africa’’, said Andra Ferreria, Media & Events manager at North West Cricket.

Mirza’s specialist coach, Ian Pont, originally set up the coaching event with NW Cricket in 2007 and returns again with a group of players from England as part of his MCI Elite Development Group for 10 days. He said, ‘’this camp will push all the players who attend, to the limit. The facilities are excellent and the centre wicket is one of the best ODI surfaces in world cricket. Over the past two years we have had county cricketers from England and international players so Cameron will find the standard very high and testing. But this is just another step in his development.’’

‘’It’s an amazing opportunity to measure yourself against your peers and above from Test playing countries’’, added Pont. ‘’Last year we had a 90 mph bowler in Gerrie Snyman the Namibian international. Cameron will be working, netting and playing with players like this so can only benefit. My MCI Elite group flies out on November 27th and stays until December 8th. We will be continuing the great work we have done so far.’’

Cameron Mirza himself is very excited at the opportunity. ‘’I really cannot wait’’ he said. ‘’It will be the highest level of camp I have attended and the extra 5 days I am having with Ian will make this trip amazing. To have the chance to get coaching here is just fantastic.’’

The International Pro Camp lasts from November 30th through December 4th and is based at ODI venue Senwes Park as well as the University of Potchefstroom facility – world-renowned in athlete training.
