April 17th, 2010

Cricket Club in this year’s Eastern American Cricket Association’s
season.

This is
Dhaniram’s second season with Atlantis, having scored over 700
runs and grabbing 20 wickets during the EACA’s 2009 season.
The hard-hitting batsman, spinner and medium pacer recently returned
from representing the USA at ICC tournaments in the UAE and Nepal.
Dhaniram will be joined by fellow USA cricketers Clain Williams, Atlantis’
new Vice Captain, and Lennox Cush, along with several talented youngsters,
in representing the long-standing New York cricket organization on
the field of play.
The vitality and energy of the younger Atlantis players was on display
last Sunday at Canarsie Park, Seaview and 108th Street in Brooklyn,
and against Diplomats Cricket Club of Brooklyn. It was an all-youth
XI against Diplomats, as the senior Atlantis players stood out the
match.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Diplomats was off to a solid
start with Romeno Dean scoring an entertaining 80 and Francis Mendonca,
38.
Diplomats, which
included the stylish Selwyn Ramphal, would go on to amass 227 all
out in 31 overs. Matthew Sandiford 2 for 15, Hugo D’Oliveria
2 for 40, and Prashant Nair 2 for 42, were the successful bowlers
for Atlantis.
With an asking rate of over seven runs per over, the Atlantis “colts”
faced an apparent uphill task, or at least it appeared so shortly
after 3:30pm last Sunday. However, the blazing willow of Nicholas
Stanford with an unbeaten 118, Sumon Bari 30, and Willie Charles
30 not out, quickly made the impossible appear very possible, as
Atlantis went on to score 228 for 3 in 31.5 overs, thus winning
their first 2010 season warm-up match, and comfortably so, by seven
wickets.
Bowling for Diplomats: The always dangerous Andre Kirton snared
one wicket, along with Chris Singh and Dyon Revello, each with one
apiece also.
Executive Board Elected for 2010-12 Term
Off the field of play Atlantis recently held elections for its Executive
Board for the 2010-12 term , with former club Executive Vice President
Steve Welcome being elected unopposed as President. Courtney “Sarge”
Legall was also unopposed as the new Executive Vice President, while
Lester Hooper was elected the club’s new Vice President and
Manager. Colin Sandy was returned unopposed as Secretary and long-standing
player and member Keith Aaron was elected Treasurer after a two-year
hiatus from the same position.
Former Atlantis President John Aaron did not seek reelection as
President after serving in that position for the past ten years
and as the club’s Secretary prior to that stint. John Aaron
was however elected to the Executive Board as Assistant Secretary
Treasurer. He will also serve as the club’s “Chief Whip”
and chair of its Membership Committee.
New York youth cricket coach Linden Fraser was appointed the club’s
senior coach, while Basil Butcher, Jr., will serve in the capacity
of Physo.
The club’s next preseason activity is a club night at the
Archer’s residence in Ossining, NY on Saturday, April 24 from
8:00pm. For more information, members and guests requiring transportation
or detailed directions, are asked to contact the club's Secretary
via e-mail at secretaryatlantiscc@gmail.com on or before Thursday,
April 22nd.
