Nassau League Presentation Of Awards

The Nassau, New York Cricket Association brought the curtains on the 2007 Cricket Season in grand style when they celebrated their Eleventh Annual Presentation of Awards at the elegant Rigatti Terrace last month.

The Nassau League continues to demonstrate why it is the leader in cricket development in the New York Region with effective management and a strong emphasis on youth cricket development.

The president, Mr. Paul DaSilva, highlighted the leagues history and accomplishments over the past eleven years in his remarks.

He stated that it was risky forming this league eleven years since the New York Region was already saturated with seven other leagues, however the league has survived.

The president said that the league survived because of its strong foundation, its commitment to cricket development and the personnel who have been with the organization throughout, namely - Ricky Singh, Ram Singh, Dean Mustaphalli, Parasram Ramsaran, Mohamed Rasheed, Coach Rampersad, Steve Kalloo, Hafeez Ali, Jules Doodnath, Lenny Ramsaroop, Gerald Singh, Sudesh Dhaniram, Daryl Roopchand. And more recently - Bhola Ramsundar – CEO, Sohan Bheer – Secretary, Denis Ramlogan – Vice-president, Peter Jolly, Maggie Jolly, Shook Shivmangal and Glyne Hurley.

“When we started to attract players like Steve Massiah, Sudesh Dhaniram, Richie Siewchan, Glen Lorick, Daryl Roopchan, Ganesh Ramsingh, Denis Rampersad, David Mohamed, you know that we have arrived as a league.” remarked the president.

The president showered praises on his fellow executive members for the fantastic job they are doing.

Sheldon Gomes was recognized for the marvelous work he has done with the youth players in 2007.

Five of the league’s players represented the New York Region under-19 team that won the 2007 USACA National Under-19 Championship (- Basdeo Ramnarine, Alexendro Kirton, Hugo Dolivara, Kester Grant, Chris Sirkisson, Frances Mendonza)

The president’s remarks was followed by the CEO remarks. Mr. Ramsundar recapped the league’s 2007 cricket season. He gave a run down of the 2007 champions the cash prizes that was awarded.

The awards ceremony followed and was dominated by New York Challengers captain Steve Massiah (Division I) and Under-19 phenom Andy Harricharran of Hempstead Cricket Club (Division II).
