Cosmos Cops Busta Lawrence Title

Cosmos crowned themselves new winners of the Metropolitan League’s Busta Lawrence 40 overs competition which concluded last weekend in New York.

By chalking up 54 and one half points from an 8-1 win/loss record, Cosmos dethroned defending champions Westburry who were beaten in their final match and had to settle for sixth place.

Progressive with 51 points took the second place runner- up spot while River Valley ended third with 45 points. Villagers took fourth place with 43.

Progressive had eight wins and two losses while River Valley ended 7-3 and Villagers 7-2.

Westburry could only muster 38 points from six wins and three losses.
Taking on Villagers in a deciding game for fourth place last Saturday at the Westburry High School ground , Westburry lost by a comprehensive 10-wicket margin. Batting first Westburry were bundled out for 88 due to fine bowling from Joel Persaud who bagged four wickets for 21 runs while Ewart Gayle supported well with 3-13.

In reply Glenn Hall slammed an unbeaten 44 and Mervin Sims 27 to fire Villlagers to 89 for no loss in reply.

Meanwhile International won the Division Two title by notching 37 points. New Hope placed second while Unity was third. Pioneers took fourth place.

The League’s competitions will continue on Saturday (July 26) with the Roy Sweeney 35 overs colored clothes series.
