Ed Ahmad To Make Guyana Series Biennial By
Orin Davidson
“The results
here did not reflect good on us, but I feel if we get this team down
(to New York) we could be a real challenge in our conditions,”
Ahmad told Cricket International. Ahmad said they are already in contact with the United States embassy to alleviate any visa issues for the Guyana team to travel to New York for next year. He added that the experience in Guyana was good for
USA Guyana, but lamented the absence of a number of regular USA Guyana
players who could not make the trip. “ The Guyana team is very talented, they put up a big challenge to us, but this is a stepping stone to bigger things to come in the future,” Ahmad declared. He said the tour achieved one of its objectives to building a relationship with the cricket fraternity in Guyana. “ I think it’s a great relationship we are building here which would be great for Guyana and America,”. Ahmad pointed that USA Guyana worked hard but the players had to get acclimatized to the conditions. He also said the exposure was good for more young players to be included and stressed that it is a good experience for the team to take their game to another level. “ We have seen what our shortcomings are and what we need to work on.” Ahmad created history in the prize money levels in Guyana for the series, by putting at stake the biggest cash incentives ever for team competition in the country. The Twenty/20 clash, the second of the three match series had at stake a whopping G$1million while the two 40 overs encounters were for G$500,000 each, going to the winner. Guyana enjoyed Christmas early as they carted off
the entire G2million total up for grabs for the 3-0 triumph. |
