By Orin Davidson
One of New York’s aspiring young cricketers was tragically killed recently in an automobile accident.

Romano Sahid

Romano Sahid, a member of the Cricket International Junior Youth Development Program was one of three young people whose lives were snuffed out when the car they were traveling in crashed into a barrier on the Belt Parkway last week.

According to reports five persons were in the vehicle at the time, one is currently in a coma while the driver survived.

Sahid, a wicketkeeper/ batsman also played for the Tri State Youths Under-19 team last year and toured with JYPD teams to Los Angeles and Connecticut.

He was 19 years old and took up cricket after the JYDP program began in 2003. Born in Guyana, Sahid was one year old when he was brought to the United States by his parents to live.

The youngster also played in the Nassau League in a specially put together team.

He was buried this week and a number of recognized New York junior players including Alec Kirton and Gregory Sewdial, who he played with, attended the preceding wake.

JP Singh, one of the coordinators of the current New York youth program, said Sahid’s presence in New York cricket will be sorely missed.

The teenager was an accounts student at QueensBorough College and had just finished the semester when he died.
