Caribbean Cup Champs To Tour Guyana
Chairman of the team’s management group Jack Bharat stated in a press release that negotiations were successfully completed for the USA-Guyana squad to oppose the national team in two 40 overs matches and one Twenty20 fixture at the end of November.
He said Guyana Cricket Board President Chetram Singh is very enthused about hosting the US team and is committed to making it a success.
Bharat pointed out that the tour is an attempt to start building bridges cricket-wise with their homeland and more similar type tours are in the works.
USA-Guyana and Guyana will clash on November30 in the first 40 overs game at the GCC ground Bourda, then square off in the Twenty20 encounter at the Providence National Stadium on December 1. The tour will conclude with the other 40 overs game at the Albion ground in Berbice on December 4th.
The Guyana team made a clean sweep of the Ed Ahmad Caribbean Cup series by winning both the 50 overs and Twenty20 titles for the first time this year.
It is expected that captain Steve Massiah and Lennox Cush will spearhead the squad and a marketing blitz involving TV, radio and the print media is being planned to promote the series.
Special non-cricket activities are being planned for the tour including an International Duck Curry competition to he hosted by Kings Jewelry owner Looknauth Persaud on December 2 at Starlight on Montrose East Coast Demerara.
The series is dubbed the 2007 Fall Guyana Tour and Bharat extended thanks to all the supporters for their emotional, financial and moral support this year.
