NY Politicians To Highlight Cricket Fun Day By Orin
Davidson Assemblyman Nick Perry, Councilman Kendall Stewart, Brooklyn Borough Parks Commissioner Julius Speigel and Allan Maisel are among the celebrities who will don “whites” in a 20 overs a side game on a doubleheader program. In the main event a New York All Stars team will clash with a Metropolitan League Representative side over 25 overs. Although most of the politicians have never played the game, the enthusiasm is high, said chief organizer Roy Sweeney. They will be closely supervised by two coaches each on the two celebrity teams. Former West Indies first class player John Sylvester of the Windward Islands is among the big names expected to appear in the All Stars game. Clain Williams, a key member of the new 2007 Regional champions New Jersey (Atlantic Region), national Under-19 captain Akeem Dodson, Wayne Cuff, Nicholas Standford and promising junior Roy Dewar will also appear for the New York side. The Metropolitan lineup will include Kevin Baugh, Darren Ferguson, Callitoz Lopez, Chuddy Gayle and Henry Forde among others. A picnic like atmosphere is planned and food will be provided free for spectators while music will be supplied by a popular set. The action will start at 10 am with the Celebrity game and the proceedings will be capped by a presentation ceremony for the top performers. The day’s
activity is sponsored by The Door Restaurant, Bolder Creek Steak House,
Royal Caribbean Bakery, Glenwood Mason Supplies and Dennis Shipping.
It is organized by United Promoters and the Metropolitan Cricket League. |
